Publication Quality Images, Illustrations, and Movies

Another set of needs focuses on producing high quality output for use in publications, proposals, web sites, and so forth. Our existing technology base provides the means to easily create image sequences for encoding into digital movie media formats, as well as the ability to generate high-resolution imagery. We expect to deploy new techniques aimed at substantially increasing the visual fidelity in images. One class of techniques aims to increase visual quality through better illumination models that help convey a greater amount of comprehensible detail data produced by high resolution simulations. Another class of techniques leverages non-photorealistic techniques to convey greater detail. Our project's organization and work plans are designed to accommodate stakeholder-specific requirements in this particular area. Our technology strategy is sufficiently flexible to permit capitalizing upon new capabilities in this area in multiple, stakeholder-specific delivery vehicles, thus achieving a high degree of technology reuse across projects.
